Extreme Ironing

                                          Extreme Ironing

When ironing your favorite pair of pants or ridding the wrinkles out of your favorite shirt, do you often feel a sense of exhilaration? If you answered no, then you fit into the majority of the world!

However, a new trend has been sweeping the world in the form of a sport titled Extreme Ironing. Extreme Ironing, shortened as EI, was created in 1997 in England by a man named Phil Shaw. Shaw first saw the sport rise to popularity in England before bringing the sport to a global reach. Mainly European countries began to participate in the sport, however the United States and parts of Asia began to see it's popularity.

Extreme Ironing today remains as a relatively underground sport with it's main following located in England. It has a yearly championship in England that pits ironers in a stiff competition (no pun intended). This sport has even pioneered other similar sports in England including Extreme Celloing (possible an idea for a future post).

As a country, England has embraced the sport and has marketed it through social media. However, British citizens use the same social media sites that Americans utilize, without a stand-alone site that specializes in British culture. They also utilize the sites in an extremely similar manner which shows the similarities between American and British Social Media.
